Key Responsibilities

Summary:

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for supporting the effective operation, upkeep, and safety of The Bible Society of Nigeria’s facilities, equipment, and vehicles. The role requires a strong mechanical orientation with working knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring that all facilities support BSN’s mission and daily operations.

Mechanical and Equipment Maintenance

  • Carry out routine inspection, servicing, and minor repairs of mechanical equipment and tools.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults and escalating complex issues to external technicians when required.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and equipment status.

Vehicle Support

  • Provide basic vehicle maintenance support, including routine checks (oil, coolant, belts, tyres, batteries).
  • Identify mechanical issues in vehicles and report promptly for corrective action.
  • Support coordination of vehicle servicing, repairs, and compliance documentation.

Plumbing Works

  • Carry out basic plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks, replacing taps, pipes, valves, and sanitary fittings.
  • Ensure proper functioning of water supply and drainage systems within BSN facilities.
  • Ensure regular pumping of water into facility tanks and timely evacuation of septic tanks.

Electrical Support

  • Perform basic electrical tasks such as replacing sockets, switches, bulbs, fittings, and minor wiring under supervision.
  • Report electrical faults that require certified electricians.
  • Ensure safe use of electrical installations and compliance with safety standards.

General Facilities Support

  • Assist in preventive maintenance of buildings, offices, and utilities and Lagos Bible Guest House facilities
  • Support setup and maintenance of facilities for meetings, events, and official functions.
  • Ensure tools and maintenance materials are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Observe and promote workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.

Skills and Competencies

  • Practical mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools and basic maintenance equipment.
  • Good problem-solving and fault-reporting skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Must be physically fit. 
  • Flexibility to work varying hours as needed to meet operational requirements. 
  • Must be a practicing Christian. 

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum of OND, Trade Test Certificate, or Technical School Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Technology, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ practical experience in facility or equipment maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical background is essential.
